Abstract
A partial discharge detector has been developed. It has been designed to indicate the total charge of partial discharge per second on a chart recorder. It can easily detect an intermittent partial discharge in an electronic circuit of value greater than 1 pC. This partial discharge detector amplifies a discharge pulse component with a particular frequency by means of a resonance circuit and it is not susceptible to the effect of external noise, making it suitable for production quality control testing. The partial discharge detector has been used for an insulation reliability test of high voltage diodes, and, as a result, it has been determined that the lifetime of glass-molded high-voltage diodes is far more than 10 years.
