Abstract
Digital tuning makes it possible to select quickly and accurately from a large number of CB, TV or AM/FM channels. However, the controls must be suitable for a wide range of users. Practical and subjective features of keyboards, stepping switches and rotary switches are compared. A rate-sensitive rotary switch whose authority increases with the rate of rotation is described. It is simple and responsive to use, and overcomes some inherent limitations of keyboards and stepping switches.
