Abstract :
Since this paper deals with the more generalized aspects of a rather large subject, a brief resumé of the background of work against which it is drawn may be of interest. Soon after world War I a certain far-sighted forester by the name of D. L. Beatty envisioned the tremandous value of radio in forest fire detection and suppression.
