Abstract :
A `perceptron-like¿ adaptive controller playing the game of `nim¿ has been studied. The machine learns with no example (teacher) to guide it. Performance is related to the machine´s environment (opponent), and a symmetrical arrangement of two learning machines in competition is shown to lead to rapid learning.
