Frequency Synthesis Custom LSI: The Inside Story

The heart of the Frequency Synthesizer System is an N-MOS custom LSI which contains the reference oscillator, programmable divider, phase locked loop, mode control logic, and the control-interface logic. The IC contains two sections. The tuner control section which is involved with the tuning loop, and the control-interface section which is involved with the overall operation of the system and the interface of the system to the user. The section of the IC associated with the tuning loop will be described in the second half of this paper.
