Abstract :
This paper may be considered to be a sequel of the paper which Mr. Magnuski and myself presented last year before the PGVC in Detroit. The previous paper entitled, "Comparison of SSB and FN for VHF Mobile Service" considered such factors as a) the same FM and SSB equipment size b) signal to noise ratios c)transmitter power d) speech processing e) preemphasis and improvement factors and f) bandwidth. Also it was mentioned that a) a good AGC to combat flutter was needed, b) a good solution to ignition noise problems was required c) a solution to the squelch problem was needed and d) that cost was an important factor. It is our intention in this paper to report on our progress and system approach since last year, and primarily to discuss the problems which had been pointed out last year. Time will not permit a discussion of such factors as transmitter noise and intermodulation, but perhaps a later discussion will.
