Cellular logical array for extracting square roots

An array of logical networks is described, the individual cells of which can be controlled so that their outputs either follow their primary input levels or act as subtractors between the primary input and that from an adjacent cell. The interconnections between cells in the array are so organised that the correct subtractions take place to extract the square root of the input binary number to the array.
