Abstract
This paper describes a V. H. F. radio system designed to provide communications for a Main Line railroad. It consists of 21 base stations, in 3 divisions; the stations in each division are connected by microwave channels to a District Dispatcher\´s office, and to a Hot Box Detection Center at one end of the line and communicating to Trains and Maintenance-of-Way crews. These V. H. F. base stations provide: 1. Repeating of signals on the Road frequency "A" automatically. 2. Repeating of signals on the Maintenance-of-Way frequency automatically. 3. Provide access by Division Dispatcher to individual V. H. F. stations for either frequency. 4. Mobile equipment has "break-in" access to Train Dispatcher. 5. Hot Box Detection Center can communicate through the V. H. F. stations directly.
