Abstract
The basic decisions and special factors applying to the site in the design of the plant are stated. The coal and ash handling plant is one of the largest in the world and the importance of good design is stressed. The paper then discusses the methods of unloading coal from a ship, the general conveying system and the available facilities for the control of the coal quality and quantity. Next follows the description of the ash and dust handling plant, dealing first with bottom ash and then fly ash or dust. Advantages are listed of the eductor system for the pneumatic conveying of dust.
