Abstract
An overall comparative assessment of in-situ methods for performance verification of neutron sensor channels is presented. This assessment includes ongoing research being conducted by the authors and their associates in the following techniques: modulation of the high voltage bias supply, analysis of detector signal noise, time domain reflectometry, and "traditional" methods such as saturation curve analysis. Results of an experimental program involving detector testing techniques in a laboratory and operating power reactor environment are discussed. Recommendations relative to the optimum methods available for a given test situation, as well as a possible "integrated" surveillance/testing program, are made.
