Abstract :
The induced absorption losses for ZrF4-based fluoride glass and fibre after being subjected to gamma-ray irradiation are measured in the 0.2¿5 ¿m wavelength range. The induced loss in the 2.55¿3.65 ¿m wavelength range is 1050¿2300 dB/km/106 roentgens, which is comparable with that for doped silica fibre at 1.5 ¿n. The formation of colouration in ZrF4-based fluoride fibre material can be suppressed by iron or titanium doping.
