Experience with Installation of a Computer Based Information System in an Operating Nuclear Power Plant

Computer based colorgraphic display systems provide improved convenience and clarity of information for the nuclear power plant operator during emergency and normal operations. Installation in an operating plant presents design challenges due to the need for integration with existing systems and procedures, a critical shortage of available space, and limited access to plant operating systems. Maintainability and reliability of the system is a primary design consideration. The challenge was met at Plant Hatch through use of a network of rugged and compact Military Specification computers and modular implementation during available outage time.
