Abstract
The use of asymmetrical element spacings in thinned aerial arrays is shown to give symmetrical radiation patterns. The use of asymmetrical element spacings gives lower sidelobe levels than symmetrical spacings. With an array of nine elements in a 19¿ array, the greatest sidelobe level is reduced from ¿5.61 dB to ¿6.87 dB by using an asymmetrical array instead of a symmetrical array.
