Abstract :
The operation of a peak-riding detector in a pulse-amplitude modulation scheme is cast into mathematical terms. A degradation parameter describing the effect of pulse interference on the process of extracting information from a pulse-amplitude signal modulated by a sinusoidal wave is developed. The degradation is shown equivalent to either a loss in desired signal power or a loss in maximum service range. The technique used in this analysis is also applicable to the analysis of pulse jamming.
