Abstract :
The possibility of producing codes which combine error control with linecoding features is examined. A strategy is described whereby, starting from a known error control block code, disparity reducing transmission codes can be produced which have embedded within them specified error protection. The relative reduction in code rate associated with the imposition of these additional linecoding constraints is examined. Also produced are the power spectra relating to these codes, showing the characteristic null at DC associated with conventional linecodes. Algorithms are presented for converting known linear systematic error control codes (ECCs) into error control line codes (ECLCs), which preserve some of the algebraic structure of the ECC. Examples of these codes, based for the purpose of illustration on the simple Hamming
