New types of modulation processes using limiters

The infinite peak clipping of two unequal-amplitude sinusoids is analysed to show that the action is linearised if one of the sinusoids is dominant. An examination of the resulting harmonic and intermodulation components suggests two possible uses for this circuit arrangement; these being as an alternative to conventional balanced modulators and demodulators, and secondly, as a pulse modulation system. The likely advantages of these new circuits are briefly discussed.
