Abstract
It is shown that the linewidth broadening factor ¿¿ for injection lasers, as measured by a recently proposed CHP (chirp-halfwidth product) method, depends significantly on the shape of the generated optical pulse. A theoretical analysis is used to show how corrected values of ¿¿ may be determined from experimental results of the spectral output under conditions of strong chirp. Good agreement is shown between measured and calculated temporal and spectral pulse shapes using this new calculation.
