Abstract :
A method for estimating histograms of numbers of counts in multiple regions of interest from projection data collected at high frame rates using positron-emission tomography (PET) is evaluated. Simulations are used to show that the algorithm accurately corrects for attenuation, that it has slightly better spatial resolution than methods using filtered backprojection, that it computes histograms with significantly less noise than filtered backprojection, and that it is faster than methods using filtered backprojection.
