Abstract
The emergence of superconducting wires able to support 50 Hz fields and current variations allows AC machines with superconducting coils both field and armature windings to be studied. The electrical design of a 500 kW generator is presented, using a no-quench criterion for the SC wire, even during transients. The results are good enough to predict the construction of a prototype AC generator.
