Abstract
The authors review object-oriented systems from the user´s point of view and discuss problems that need solving. They describe how characteristic features of object-oriented systems can provide a foundation for various computational tasks. In particular, they address the impact of object models on programming environments, expert systems and databases. Although they use a relatively simple example for illustration, they believe that the same concepts and techniques can be applied to general applications. The authors also discuss related problems and highlight important research directions.<>
