Abstract :
Some of the factors affecting the design of a binary signaling format for high capacity wide area digital radio paging are discussed. Topics considered are synchronization, battery economy techniques, error control coding to ensure acceptable success and false call rates, and the choice of bit rate. Paging successful and false call rates of typical format are predicted for moving and stationary pagers in environment of multipath propagation and shadowing.
