Abstract :
Post-transmission dispersion compensation in optically transparent soliton communication systems is shown to reduce Gordon-Haus jitter by a factor of 2. In practical systems, this improvement is difficult to achieve due to dispersive pulse broadening. Nevertheless, for an example 5 Gbit/s, 10000 km system significant BER improvements (10-9-10-12) are readily attainable.
