Abstract :
The performance of a television transmitter has always been difficult to measure because the demodulator introduces distortions which may be identical to those being measured in the transmitter. Envelope demodulation of the vestigal sideband signal introduces quadrature distortion, which masks the distortions of the, transmitter. This paper describes a means by which a so-called ´transparent´ demodulator has been developed. It also explains why this transparency is inherent and thus reliable.
