Abstract :
Magnetic fields can be produced by acoustic motions in electrically conducting media, such as sea water. A novel technique is presented to characterise the sonomagnetic field, produced by circular current rings, induced in the ocean by cylindrically symmetric pressure waves. Both acoustic and magnetic field problems are solved using the finite element (FE) method. An axisymmetric problem consisting of a monopole source submerged in the ocean is discussed. Spatial magnetic field plots are obtained enabling sonomagnetic field characterisation
