Abstract :
A simple Michelson interferometer, illuminated by an amplitude stabilised He-Ne laser, has been used to monitor extremely small optical-path-length variations. The instrument is capable of determining a change of 1 Å (2×10¿3 rad), with a time resolution of approximately 3 ¿s.
