Abstract :
A cold-cathode gas-filled device is described in which the discharge switches rapidly between a high-voltage glow discharge and an arc. This device is capable of modulating a d.c. supply at power levels above 1 kW, at frequencies up to 1.3 MHz and with estimated efficiencies of about 90%.
