Abstract
Some of the operating principles of contemporary molded-case circuit breakers and fuses are reviewed. Emphasis is placed on energy levels. It is shown how, in combination, these products and energies interact. This analysis of cause and effect shows why analytical selection of fuses for circuit breaker protection may yield unsafe combinations
