Abstract :
The occurrence of anomalous breakdown in synthetic insulating materials has been reported in recent years under alternating voltages, direct voltages, and direct voltages with ripple. In the paper, the authors report the results of their investigations on anomalous breakdown phenomena under positive and negative switching surge voltages, and discuss the mechanisms of breakdown.
