Abstract :
A new family of compact TV sets with built-in batteries, which are portable in the true sense of the word and always ready to use even if no external power source is available, was born several years ago. And since then a lot of models, combination of TV with either one or some of such functions as radio, cassette recorder and clock, have been brought into the market. The present paper describes technical aspects of the designing of such models. Typical data showing the progress of 5 inch black and white compact TV in the recent five years are: approx. 46% reduction in power consumption, approx. 43%/ p and 26% reductions respectively of volume and weight of the set. Considerations on compact design are discribed concerning circuits, components and their arrangements. Problems arising from combination of functions are also discussed. Power consumption and operating period of battery are very important theme and means to reduce power consumption are explained. Finally considerations on power supply circuits especially with built-in batteries are described.
