Abstract :
The network protocol stack is usually modeled as a state machine with message-parsing and generating functionalities. This article presents a different design model that supports dynamically loadable, platform- and language-independent protocol stacks. The model consists of a protocol engine and a set of protocol description rules, which the engine uses to set up the protocol stack dynamically.
