Abstract :
John H. Schumacher, a member of the Consumer Electronics Administrative Committee, and chairman of the Standards Committee, died on May 3,- 1981 at the age of 63. Born in Green Bay, Wisconsin in 1917, he attended the Illinois Institute of Technology after which he worked for the U.S. Army signal corps before joining Belmont Radio Corp. in 1943. Subsequently, John was a member of the engineering staffs at Admiral Corp. and Warwick electronics from which he retired in 1976. His 20 years of service at Warwick included 5 years as manager of electrical engineering and 5 years as a staff technical consultant. His industry activities included chairmanships of the EIA R-4 TV Receivers Committee and IEEE Spring Conference as well as membership on the EIA engineering policy council, the cable TV systems, the interference task force, and AdHoc Committee on X-Radiation and Engineering Safety. He also served on the FCC "Cable TV Advisory Committee-Panel III, TV Receivers." John is survived by his wife, Florence, a daughter, Ann (Mrs. Eugene Matheson), 2 sons, Thomas and James, and 6 grandchildren. His counsel will be missed by his colleagues on the Consumer Electronics AdCom and by his many friends in our industry, but his contributions and service will be remembered for years to come.
