Abstract
In the context of transverse resonance method, a criterion is established for the choice of trial functions introduced in Galerkin´s method. This criterion can be used to avoid the appearance of spurious solutions in the whole region of a propagation diagram and to guarantee, at the same time, a good precision for the true solutions
