  • Abstract
Coil winding machine design is dictated by a coil´s complexity, material tension limitations, machine versatility, automation/operator intervention, production volume, and budgetary considerations. Winding machine designs, tensioner devices, coil winding patterns, and potential coil winding problems are explored. It is suggested that coil winding is an art with foundations in sound engineering practices and experience. Computerized controls offer accuracy and versatility, but understanding the basics of machine design, tension control, and a wire´s path leads the designer and customer to an intelligent and cost-effective solution to the winding application.<>
