Abstract
A modulation technique using a biased Mach-Zehnder modulator in a millimetre-wave radio-over-fibre uplink system is demonstrated. The technique can effectively and easily provide high modulation at low cost with a 0 dB power difference between the carrier and sidebands. The received signal power and the signal-to-noise ratio are increased by 15 and 10 dB, respectively, over conventional modulation methods. A demonstration of 500 Mbit/s-BPSK 50 GHz-band signal transport over fibre is given.
