Abstract
The state of electromagnetic launcher technology is briefly reviewed. Technical problems in achieving the launch technology objectives are discussed, including those connected with energy storage devices, switching devices, rails and solenoid accelerators, and the effects of high acceleration on projectiles and impact physics. Finally, the state of the materials technology is considered, and the areas in which basic research is needed are defined
