Abstract
The author describes some advances in opening switch technology and their demonstration in the megampere advanced switch technology (MAST) hardware. After describing the MAST concept, he examines the efficiency, weight, and life characteristics of the switch. He concludes that the MAST switch demonstrates the feasibility of large-bore rapid-fire railgun systems based on inductive energy storage
