Abstract
A method of resistive commutation at megampere current levels is examined. Arcing commutation at these current levels causes excessive erosion of current collectors. Resistive commutation substantially eliminates arcing and erosion. Laboratory tests were conducted in which repetitive, resistive commutation at currents up to 700 kA was demonstrated. A significant reduction in arcing and collector damage was observed
