Abstract :
A pulsed power supply consisting of a fast discharge battery, a switch based on silicon-controlled-rectifier (SCR) technology, and an energy storage/pulse transformer is discussed. Preliminary results indicate that the battery is capable of discharging current pulses with reproducible peak values of 6.21 kA in a 14.4 mΩ dump resistance. In one pulse, 285 coulombs are transferred to the load whose electric energy equals 22.6 kJ. Using one bipolar battery, pulses of 151 kA with a decay time of 3.5 ms (E=21.4 kJ) can be generated in a load resistance of 0.5 mΩ
