  • Abstract
    The reproduction and the storage of synthetic images on a smectic liquid-crystal display is described. The `write¿ is obtained by an infrared laser beam. A spatial modulation of the cell transmission is obtained with a variable alternating voltage applied to the cell. A high-resolution display with high contrast and continuous gray scale was realised.
