Abstract :
The reliability estimation of a series system in which the component reliabilities are unknown is considered. The optimal sampling scheme depends on parameters that are typically unknown. A sequential sampling scheme is introduced and compared with both balanced allocation and optimal allocation. Numerical comparisons for a two-component series system are given. The results indicate that the proposed sequential sampling scheme is much better than balanced allocation and is nearly optimal
