Abstract :
We demonstrate a novel optical waveguide interferometric modulator/switch in glass, which uses the thermo-optic (TO) effect based on the temperature dependence of refractive index. The TO modulation and switching characteristics are discussed experimentally. In particular, TO switching of the order of 50 ¿¿s was successfully obtained under an overdriven operation.
