Abstract
Describes the coherent detection of stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) from an optical fibre, using an InP photoconductive three-wave mixer. In this mixer two optical signals offset by 33 GHz are multiplied together with a microwave signal, all within the same device, to produce an output signal of a few hundred MHz. This arrangement could be used to measure the temperature distribution along a fibre.
