Abstract
The various types of errors, with an emphasis on contextual and resource errors, that an advanced intelligent network (AIN) is subject to are discussed. The AIN switch actions and procedures taken upon detection of an error are also discussed. In many cases, the error is handled in consultation with the service logic entity (SLE), the network entity that influences call processing, which still has primary control of the actions to be taken by the AIN switch. Communication schemes that allow the involvement of the SLE in the error handling process are described.<>
