Abstract :
A computer-aided learning package, PAT (protocol analysis tutor), developed as a tool to help students and novice data communications engineers learn the basic concepts of data link protocols, is described. The tool enables users to construct the frames of the HDLC (high-level data link control) standard data-link level protocol. The frames can be combined in sequence to form a call, representing the execution of the protocol. At all stages, checks of both the syntax and semantics of the call are made
