Abstract :
The classification of hybrid modes in circular cylindrical optical fibers is studied. It is shown that problems of the mode classifications, i.e., the crossover of the dispersion characteristics and the remarkable changes of the polarization states and the field configurations, are caused by the coupling of the HE-type and EH-type modes.
