Abstract
A study was carried out to determine which power system operating functions will benefit most from advanced graphics facilities, and which graphics facilities (visualization and interaction techniques from both existing and emerging graphics standards) offer the greatest potential benefits to the dispatcher. It was found that the power system operating functions that can benefit the most from advanced graphics facilities, in order of priority (high to low), are: system restoration, distribution system mapping, alarming, system monitoring and contingency analysis, economic applications, voltage profiling, and weather. Several examples of graphical renderings of the operating functions are given and discussed.<>
