  • Abstract
A drift collection calorimeter prototype of 11.2 N0 radiation lengths (42 cm actual), which has a combined radiator and electric-field shaping structure made of high-density lead glass tubing, is presented. Extensive experimental measurements at the CERN-PS test beam are reported. A linear energy response has been found in the energy range from 2 to 5 GeV, with an energy resolution of (18+or-2)%/ square root E.
