Abstract :
An experimental technique for characterizing the operation of multielectrode DFB lasers in terms of power and wavelength contours is described here. For a complete description of the wavelength tuning characteristic it is shown that it is necessary to develop two sets of wavelength contours corresponding to the static (thermally dominated) and the dynamic (carrier dominated) tuning characteristics. The problem of the interelectrode capacitance is also highlighted here.<>
