Abstract :
A digital beamforming technique utilising a long linear FM pulse in a sonar array is described. The difficulties of the beat frequency deviation at various sensors are overcome by sampling and phase correction. Theoretical discussions and computer simulations show that this technique may give improved detection with high angular resolution as well as high range resolution.
