Abstract :
The properties of volume holograms for plane-wave incidence were discussed in detail by Kogelnik. In the present letter, Kogelnik´s calculations are generalised for a 2-dimensional case when the incident waves can have arbitrary wavefronts. Coupled differential equations are derived, and it is shown that power, defined by generalising geometrical optics, is conserved.
